How i revised A-level politics

A level politics is a very striaghtfordward subject at its core. for Edexcel, the essays accross the papers are very similar with small differences within the source essays, ideolgies and normal 30 markers. depsite the differences being small it is still imprtant to know the differernt structures needed.

staying up-to-date with the news is also important but not as time consuming as it may sound? I know a lot of people recommend reading BBC news and other formal sources but i always found it much easier to consumer news through social media, following itv news, sky news and bbc news on TikTok and then following politicians, journalists and pollsters on X (formaly Twitter). This method made it much easier to consume large amounts of news in smaller chunks and I'd argue news more relevant to the course. My friend and partner at Revisionportal however was a big fan of podcasts and I'm willing to bet a lot of content he added to the essay plans were taken from said podcasts.

Essay structure is arguably the most important part of poltiics that allows you to do well. Different teachers have different methods and i spent a lot of time originally trying the perfect my essays. it involved reflecting on past essays and my friends essays loads to build a consistently solid structure. once one of my essays did well, i copies the structure. every time I'd write a new essay I'd have my 27/30 (which is available in our paper 1 booklet) essay open and I'd emulate that structure in every essay. Following doing this every essay would score much higher than they previously did.

My chosen method of revision, obviously was essay plans. every question in edexcel politics is an essay. Personally i was a massive fan of flashcards for physics but in my opinion they're just not as effective as essay plans when it comes to politics. I would blurt the essay plans i thought were most relevant over and over again untill i could do it in my head. The day of my exam i actually blurted only 2 essays, both of which came up on the exam.
